History of the Kent Championship.

At one time the Championship included all senior Kent League teams so they could test their
skills against teams with the highest ability in the country. An example showing the
First Phase results from the 2002 season can be viewed here. 2002

The games were shorter to ensure that Kent teams were not beaten by too many and to keep
the NL teams interested before the more serious Phase 2; when the pool winners entered
the Senior Pool. The Reserve and lower pools were used to rate the Kent Teams in ability
from 1st to last. In some seasons this rating also determined what League Division each
team played in for the remainder of that season. But With the increasing gulf in standards
and ability, it is now open to club first teams only.
The Reserve Pool has been dropped this season (2008), following the EKA's decision to end
the National League Reserve Division and the teams have now returned to their respective
Area League.

Increasing time constraints on the Korfball calendar year after year, with EKA National
Championships has at all age groups and the success and subsequent expansion of Kent's
Junior League Competition also led to the demise of this challenging and closely contested
Junior Championship that operated so successfully as Kent's season opener for thirteen years.
